What does "stay in touch" really mean?

If an English man ends his email with "stay in touch", does it mean that he really would like to stay in touch with you, or is he just being polite?

  1. it means they'd like to hear from you from time to time.


  2. is a way to say "don't be a stranger", "don't forget about me", "write back",,, is a polite way to say they want to keep the communication going. It also means don't overdo it, "stay in touch".. meaning a couple times a week maybe, not daily.

  3. don't stop emailing, keep on the communication whenever is need

  4. I think he means it, but don't make it too "stalkish" like. Give them room.  

  5. He's saying keep in contact with me because I like communicating with you.


  6. Email him and if he replies then he really meant it.
