What does "support our troops" mean?

I keep seeing this bumper sticker, especially since 9/11.

What does it mean?

Why would I want to support people who are making the world more dangerous?

Well then, look at it this way if it wasn't for the troops now and the troops before them we would be typing in german, russian, or Chinese. Do you not understand that on the most extreme side of Islam we americans or christians are hated by them and they wish we were dead,  where were you on 9/11. Our freedoms your freedom is protected by these troops on a daily basis. Take away our military and another will replace it tomorrow from another country one probably not of your choice, so support this one or expect another one. Its your choice of which or who's troops you will support, but expect that there will always be troops.

Supporting our troops means doing what's best for them. That might involve helping them with the equipment they need. It might mean giving them the money to keep doing their job. It might mean treating them respectfully when they get home. It might mean making sure veterans get the financial support they need.

Or it might mean admitting that they're in harm's way for no good reason and bringing them home.

In the case of the Iraq war, I'm betting on the last one. But sometimes the other answers are more appropriate (for example, in Afghanistan).

Wow, you think the troops make our world dangerous??? I suggest you move to a country you think is safer...good luck finding one, btw.

To answer your question i think "support our troops" means that regardless of what your opinion is on the war(s), the president, the government, etc...that you remember that these troops are ultimately defending YOUR freedom and they are young AMERICAN men and women who have families, wives, husbands, children, mothers and fathers and they are putting their lives on the line for you. They arent the ones making the world dangerous, they are trying to stop the people making the world dangerous.

its nothing but political propaganda and when People have that bumper sticker on their car they believe the simple fact of having it makes them "Support" our troops.

Supporting our troops was coined by the Bush administration to try to curve protests about the war.

Because if you protest the war you Do not "Support Our Troops"

Which leaves a person open for being attacked for not being a "Patriot"

Its all politics and mind games.

I believe supporting our troops would be getting back home to their families. But I would be labeled as a non patriot by the bush administration for thinking in such a way.

"Support our troops" will remain a vague phrase because it can be construed in so many ways.

Thats why they made it.
