What does it mean when the "infield is moving in"? or "forward or backward"? What is a check swing?

  1. A person who has suspect defense means they are not very good defensively. It is how the infield positions. They can be in a few steps, or out a few steps. A check swing is when a hitter takes a swing but stops halfway.

  2. suspect defense - It means it's not good... or more likely to not be good.

moving in- bases are loaded and they are trying to get the out at home or they expect the bunt.

playing back - they are playing for a double play (if there is less than two outs) or if there are two outs because they know the other team won't bunt and they don't want anything to get through. Gives them more time to get to a hard hit ball.

check swing - when they stop their swing or try to stop their swing because they decided they don't like the pitch.

  3. suspect-not good defence

infeild moves in when yu move in its for bunt or a waek grounder

foward same as^ backwards big power hitter

a check swing is when in your swing you dont finish. You break your wrists and then stop.

  4. Suspect means unreliable or inconsistent.

Infield moving in means just that. The normal playing position for the infielders. particularly those in the middle is back near the outfield grass where they maximize their chance of getting an out on a ground ball and they have the most range for a pop-up.  Under certain conditions they will not play so deep.  A batter who runs fast decreases their time to make a play.  They will move closer with a runner on third for a possible play at the plate. Ar unner on first might cause them to play at "double play depth" where the middle infielders squeeze a little closer to second base.  A batter that likes to bunt may cause the corner infielders to shorten up a blt.  A sacrifice situation, etc.

Forward or backward is much the same thing   Moving in is forward, returning to normal is backward.  So is playing especially deep, as in on the outfield grass, that teams will do sometimes for a powerful batter that is slow afoot.  Out fielders also move in and out for various defensive reasons like the strength of the batter or the necessity of a play at the plate.

The check swing is where the batter begins his swing and decides to halt it before commuitting to a swing at a pitch he doesn't like.  If the home plat umpire thinks that he swung he will call it a strike. If he doesn't, assuming the pitch was a ball, he will call it a ball.  The defensive team, if it was close, can ask for an appeal where the home plate umpire will check with the first base umpire for a right handed batter or third for left on whether the batter swung or not.  The position of those umpires affords them a better view of that situation.

  5. suspect defense - doesn't play good or hard-nosed on defense

infield in or out is self explanatory, it's moving a few steps closer or further away from home plate

check swing is a half swing by the batter.  A check swing is not a strike, but if the bat goes further than the hitter's body it is considered a full swing and then it is a strike
