Question:

What does "tomato sink" means?

Hi, I´m mexican,and don´t understand the word sink there. I think its a part of the fruit or a kind of branch in it. I don´t know if it's the pedicel or something like that.

  1. Tomato sink is the place or organs in the tomato plants where  excess carbohydrates are stored that can be used by the tomato plant in times it is stressed. It is not necessarily any one organ in particular. In tomatoes the roots are one organ that serve as a sink. Just think of the word "sink" as it relates to plants of storage of carbohydrates.

    Trees act as a carbon "sink" for removing CO2 from the air and storing it so that is not contributing to the greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.
