What does "two weeks in the hole" mean?

I started a new job about six weeks ago but I wasn't paid for the first two weeks that I worked there. I asked around and my co-workers told me that it was because I had to put "two weeks in the hole." If anybody can give me a definition of what this means, I'd really appreciate it.

  1. When you start a job you have to earn 2 weeks worth of pay before you get paid. Meaning AFTER you work the 2 weeks you will receive your pay check. They dont give you the money up front and then you work 2 weeks. Hope this helps you.

  2. This means you have to actually work four weeks before getting the pay for the first two weeks.  the first two weeks you worked were paid at the end of the fourth week.  Therefore, the last two weeks that you work will be issued to you two weeks after you leave your job.

For example, if you went to work on July 1 and work through September 30, you should have gotten your first paycheck around July 30 and your last paycheck around October 15.

  3. Meaning you have to work 3 weeks before you get your check
