Question:

What does raw nettle leaf taste like?

I know it tastes like spinach when cooked. I know how to avoid the sting when eating it raw but it's not in season right now, so I can't sample any from my yard right now.

I've heard it tastes really good. If you've tasted it raw, how would you describe the flavor?

  1. I don't want any around me, especially in my mouth, it hurts like H-ll on my hands, I have some around here and I stay away from it.

  2. fresh nettle shows the presence of formic acid, mucilage, mineral salts, ammonia, carbonic acid and water. when tasted it would be extremely bitter.

Although not prescribed by the British Pharmacopceia, the Nettle has still a reputation in herbal medicine, and is regarded in homoeopathy as a useful remedy. Preparations of the herb have astringent properties and act also as a stimulating tonic.

  3. The only word to describe it is BITTER,but if you can deal with that, go for it.
