  1. something that is not meant to be answered, for example a rhetorical question..


  2. It means something - usually a question - that does not need an answer. It is used to make an impact or effect, for example, in an essay someone could say 'Is that really a good way to bring up children?' That person wouldn't be expecting to get an answer because they were asking a 'rhetorical' question. What they're really saying is 'That is obviously not a good way to bring up children'.

    Another meaning is that it's anything pertaining to (relating to) rhetoric.

  3. rhetorical mostly means a question or statement or something that wasn't meant to be answered.

    Ex: "why do you have to be so mean?" or "who do you think you are?"
