What does she mean, if the cervix is ready?

My midwife said she'll strip my membranes if my cervix is ready. What does this mean?

  1. I believe it's when your cervix is short and soft.  Usually if stripping the membranes works you will go into labor within 24-48 hours.  Sometimes it takes a little longer..mine were done on a thursday and I had my baby on Monday.  It is really painful!!  


  2. The cervix softens and thins at the start of labor.

  3. If your cervix is ready, that means its time for delivery, maybe she means that your cervix can be ready, but your water may not have broke and she will do that to speed up the process, but you should ask her personally, you dont want to be guessing when it comes to your own pregnancy.

  4. if your cervix has dilated a bit and is effaced
