  1. When an American citizen sponsors someone, they are not only vouching for them as not doing an illegal thing while here in the USA, but they also will be responsible for that person financially, so they won't be a burden on the gov./system.

  2. it means that you have to have a citizen of the USA sponser you to come over. so they are pretty much vouching that you aren't coming over to do anything illegal and should be allowed in. this person could be a family member or friend that has already come over. they  also are saying that they will help you find a job and a place to live. hope this helps!!!!

  3. It means the person that is applying for the visa/greencard on your behalf. If you marry your spouse will sponsor you for the greencard as they are the american citizen, if you are coming here for work, your US employer will sponsor you as they are the US company.... it just mean that they are submitting that application on your behalf, and in the case of a spouse are promising to be financially responsible for you, in the case of a company they are promising to give you a wage so that you can live and not be a burden on the state.
