  1. It is supposed to be a SAFETY inspection, so if your turn signals don't work you can count on them failing you. Your horn needs to work as well, and your tires need tread on them.

They MAY take the opportunity to stuff a sensor up your exhaust pipe to check the emissions.

  2. Definite failures -

Leaking fork seals - pop up the dust seals on the forks, to see if any fork oil has pooled above the seals.

Cracks on the sidewalls of tires.

Insufficient tire tread depth - need 2/32" of tread, in the center.

Brake pads past their ware limits.

Any fluid leaks of any kind (crankcase oil, coolant, leaking head gasket, etc).

Steering bearings - cannot be loose or have any ware "notches" (turn the handlebars - if you feel any indents in the bearings - fail).

Cant have any cracked or broken lenses (lights) or cracked mirrors.

    Must haves -

    High & low beam headlight

    Tail light

    Brake light

    Horn

    Good tires

    Good brakes

    At least one mirror

Some states have an emmisions test (California yes - NY no) NJ - Check your state's laws (at a motorcycle inspection station).
