  1. u don't need that much money to have fun or to buy stuff.

well it depends. if you're staying a month you will be good with that budget. for living, eating and going out. forget about buying souvenirs.

  2. your money will more or less buy what the same as in the US. remember that food and drink are cheaper in Mex but clothes, electronics, and gasoline is far more expensive. That amount of money should be fairly adequate for a vacation, specially in the less touristy areas

  3. The best exchange rates in my opinion are in the international Mexico airports. 25,000 pesos in mexican terms is quite a lot of money.

Movie tickets (no popcorn, just the ticket): 50 pesos regular cinema, about 120 pesos for a VIP room

    Coca-cola soda can= 5 pesos

Nice jacket from a known brand like Tommy Hilfiger = around 2000 pesos at the most

Dinner for 1 in a fancy restaurant: at most 500 pesos

Nightclub with booze for 1 for 1 night: A pretty d**n expensive one nighter would be costing you 3000 pesos (more money spent in 1 night than what most mexican earn in 1 month).

One night with a prostitute could cost you between 500-3000 pesos. Hotel room not included.

If you're really into blowing cash like nuts going to the fanciest restaurants and the more exclusive nightclubs, that amount of money could give you a lot of senseless entertainment for a week (even less if you really want to blow cash away in brand name clothes in Polanco).

If you don't decide to spend cash that way, you could be travelling all over the country for several weeks/months and travel to many cities and eating well if you spend the cash modestly.

  4. Its cheap in mexico bt make sure u haggle with them otherwise youl end up getting ripped off. Ofcourse you'l be able to buy alot of stuff with that just like you would in your home country.

Have a good time, dont forget my pressie hehe

  5. You'll end up losing your savings with the exchange rates both from Dollar to Peso and then if you need to exchange from Peso to Dollar.  Best bet is to keep US currency and you will find many bargins out there.

  6. I am not sure why you would buy the pesos in the US. They have ATM machines in Mexico. It will be safer and it will cost you less in fees. As soon as you land in your plane or drive across the border you just go to an ATM.

    - Ask for funny amounts from the ATM so you get some small bills. Unlike US where you almost always get 20 dollar bills, some Mexican ATMs will give you nothing but 500 peso notes if you ask for 3000 pesos. Most people don't have that kind of change. [There is a 1000 peso banknote now in Mexico, but I have never seen one. I think they mostly circulate in Mexico City.]

    =============================

The price of things varies inversely to how close you are to tourists. Prices in Cabo are extraordinarily high (equivalent to the most expensive parts of Los Angeles).

    ------------------------------------

Handmade goods can be very inexpensive in Mexico. Electronics, wine, and liquor not made in Mexico is very expensive.

  7. I have never exchanged money to go to Mexico. They like American dollars just fine.

  8. I personally don't take a lot of money with me when I go, but I stay with in-laws (so no hotel), eat at their home (so no restaurant, but I pay for the groceries while there), and I don't buy a lot of stuff. So for a week I usually take about $250-300, and I usually have quite a bit leftover which I give to my in-laws (all except maybe $50 US dollars to get throught the airport on the way home-lunch, snacks etc.).

  9. You can have stupid fun for $100 dollars a day per person. $1200 = 12,000 pesos. Keep in Mind I live here and can do "fun" for alot less. Local little resturant , away from the tourists - 25 pesos for a decent dinner. Bus instead of cab 4.50 pesos. Cigarettes - 25 pesos. Beer - 10 pesos.

I'd say stuff - away from the tourist strip in any Mexican town ( Acapulco , Cabo , Cancun ) is at least one third less than anytown USA. Get to know the secrets and leave the tourist "strip" and now your saving - at least HALF !!!!  Ask the hotel staff or venture off the strip to a dive bar and you will find the bargin places that save you big time. Tip the bartender for his insight.

A blind tourist even going to a disco at night better be able to have a good time with $100 a day.$200 and Mikey consider that woman high maint. :)
