  1. There are two Frankfurts in Germany.

Frankfurt ,am Main wich is a river

The other Frankfurt is  an der Oder, also a river

and it simply means on the then the name of the river, they have alot more Cities like that, for example Freiberg a/N,wich stands for am Neckar

  2. Well sometimes it can seem a little silly-- there is the giant international transportation and financial hub of germany....FRANKFORT (A/M)Kind of like Chicago--- and then this little Frankfort between Berlin and the Polish border (I have never met anyone who lived or even visited there)---for example there is Paris, France and Paris,Texas...I don't know why they still do that...

  3. am Main, on the river (called) Main; it is also important because there is another (much smaller) town called Frankfurt in Germany (Frankfurt/ Oder)

  4. It stands for "am Main", which means "on the River Main".

Frankfurt is on the Main River, so that became part of its official name.

  5. yes, and the other Frankfurt is called "Frankfurt an der Oder" (which is also a river)

  6. There are two Frankfurts in Germany.

This says it is the Frankfurt at the [sic], on the Main (RIver).

The other Frankfurt is in the north east.

  7. If you mean Frankfurt in Germany, then the a/m stand for..am Main.Meaning the city Frankfurt on the river Main.
