  1. I'll be honest, it doesnt really represent much. It's just a flag, afterall. The only flag that really represents something to me is the confederate flag, because it's been used so much in hate crimes, when I see one I automatically think racism.

  2. some of the greatest olympic athletes in the world

  3. im 18, lived in america all my life, and honestly it never really meant much to me till last summer...

i just was never very patriotic.

well a year ago i went on a trip to london and paris.

on the last day of my trip we went to many places where we had to bring our passports along as proof of age for free admission to Versailles.

(at least i think thats why..)

well after that we gave them to one of our leaders (a teacher, this was a unofficial school trip.)

later that night we went to the Eiffel tower and enjoyed or last night... it got really late and the metro shut down so we had to get a taxi.

    needless to say

she lost the bag with our passports

(half of us had handed them to her)

we were stranded in france with NO passports, half our group had to leave to catch their flight, we had no hotel, NOTHING.

after about 35 hours of no sleep, carrying our luggage around paris and on the metro, no food, we finally reached the american embassy...

Seeing that flag, my countries flag, made me cry like a baby...

even though the building had barricades surrounding it and security guards all around i felt so  peaceful... and i'd never before knew how lucky i am. i felt like i won a million bucks.

after leaving our luggage in a park (Security reasons, because of bombs)  and walking individually though security we finally reached the inside.

    i grabbed a snack.

    took a nap.

    and got my passport

    :)

  4. hope

  5. That someone has pride in their nation, to the point that some people will blindly accept or even believe untruths if they are given under the guise of patriotism.  (I cite as my example any time a crowd is induced to shout, "U.S.A.! U.S.A.!"  over and over, at the cost of understanding why they are shouting it.)  Any act can be covered up, and punishment for it delayed, if the person doing is makes a speech about patriotism and then incites this chant.  They may still face punishment and backlash for their actions, but in that moment, that crowd was too busy shouting to be angry at them.  In fact, they may even feel a sense of camaraderie with the person who committed the act; after all, aren't we all Americans?
