What does the HMS in HMS Challenger stand for?

I came across it in my science book and it didnt say what it stood for. My teacher told me it wasnt going to be on the test but I still want to know what it stands for.

  2. His/Her Majesty's Ship;  used exclusively for warships of the (British) Royal Navy.

    That includes "stone frigates"  i.e. naval shore establishments.    HMS Raleigh,  for example,  is a (very large) training establishment ashore,  near Plymouth.
