Which means:

" Public limit company of the Réunis" Farmers;

Its actually the brand name.

It's also name protected.( Abby or Abbey) is the other brand.

St. Paulin for instance( a rip off of SAFR and Abbey) tried to pass itself off as the real deal. Very close to it.

These were originally monastary cheeses( made by monks) but are now mass produced and unfortunately not very good anymore and way over priced.

Very mild, no kick, and they go bad pretty fast.

Very much like a slicing muenster( which is 1/3rd the price).

A lot of better alternatives out there.

"Société Anonyme des Fermiers Réunis" (S.A.F.R.) later became their registered trademark, and is still printed on wheels of Port Salut cheese distributed today.

That society no longer exists, now SAFR is only a brand name and stands for nothing more then SAFR.

When the monks left, the Société was gone.
