I have a race horse and he has a lip tattoo but it's hard to read. It looks like U325 and than and M with and underline. Do they have letters and numbers? How many carectors are in the tattoo?

  1. I've seen some horses with the number on the underside of their lip.  Normally, they're like a blue-ish color.  I'm not exactly sure how many numbers/letters there are, but I know I've never heard of them putting the tattoo on the neck, but that's just me!  Hope this helps!

  2. they have some numbers down there neck and 1 letter

each horse has a diffrent one

  3. The first digit or character is a letter.

It indicates the year the horse was foaled.

The reat usually 5 numners are the horses Jockey Club registration number.

If you know or can read the tattoo you can have Jockey Club research it for about $35 and get the horses records

  4. Yes they do have letters and numbers and they are tattoed on the inside of the upper lip. I have no idea how many numbers or letters there are. But as for the 'numbers on the neck' they are freezebrands and are not normally usede on thoroughbred racehorses (they do sometimes use them on standardbreds). Usually the number on the horses lip is a number that corresponds with the Jockey Club where the horse should be registered.
