We all know what the president does (hopefully), but seriously, in the past 8 years the only thing I've heard about d**k Cheney was that he shot his friend.

  1. The Vice President position in the United States is just sort of a Placeholder position, in case the President is absent.

The VP is the successor to the President.

  2. The VP is the President of the Senate and casts a vote to break a tie in Congress.  That and helping to advise the president are probably the two biggest jobs of a VP.

  3. Don't they teach Political Process in school anymore?

As designated by the Constitution of the United States, the vice president also serves as the President of the Senate, and may break tie votes in that chamber. He or she may be assigned additional duties by the president but, as the Constitution assigns no executive powers to the vice president, in performing such duties he or she acts only as an agent of the president.

These are just some of the duties they perform.

  4. Pray for the president's untimely demise.

  5. shoots people in the face.  at least that's what Cheney did.

  6. The V.P. is the president of the Senate and casts a vote if they are deadlocked. He acts in the place of the president if the president is unable to perform functions of president.  He becomes president for the duration of current term.  Advises president.  He can act as special Representative for the president.

  7. The VP breaks ties in Senate votes, and is the backup to the president.

So yeah, ordinarily they don't do anything.  That is why it is such a zilch job.
