  1. I'm pretty sure they're put under. Sorry I can't help you with this much, as my rats have never needed spaying/neutering but I just wanted to check this with you - Neutering can be an expensive operation and potentially dangerous to the rat - please only neuter them if you have to and not for the sake of it. I'm guessing you're having behavioral or health problems in which case it is understandable that you want your rats neutered. The rescue center I work at is having two territorial rats neutered this week so I'll get back to you about how that was done.

Make sure that the vets you choose have performed successful rat specific neuterings before - A friend just had to have her female rat put to sleep after an inexperienced vet severely burnt the poor rats spine on the operation heat pad.

  2. I have never had a rat nuetered but I have known friends that have had this done with there pet rats. Nuetering and spaying rats can be a headache. They do put them out but one of my friends rats chewed out her incision stitches. It becomes extremely expensive. They do put them out to do this but after wards they have to be in there own cage bythemselves until they heal. The vet will also prescribe antibiotics and pain medicine. I was going to have this done to some of my girls and the vet informed me that to spade one of my girls with antibiotics and painmeds and everything it was going to cost almost $400. I asked why so much. She said the smaller the animal the more it is to operate. So we dont do that and I have all girls so no pregnancys. But hope I helped and good luck.

  3. i think they are under cus cats are but you might wanna look that up on google to make sure.

    good luck

  4. Depends on the vet.  Everyone has different protocols. Usually a sedative is giving then gas anesthesia.  We send home oral post op pain management for 2 days.  No sutures to be removed.
