What does the axis in eye prescription mean?

What is the normal axis? i have axis of 2 for right eye and 5 for left eye. Whats the difference between cylinder and spherical?

  2. I agree with Judy.

    Cylinder is used to correct for astigmatism.  So you have 2.25 diopters of astigmatism in your right eye and 1.50 diopters in your left eye.

    People with no astigmatism will only have a spherical correction.

  3. There is no "normal axis", it is what it is.

    Axis specifies the direction of the cylindrical power.  The spherical and the cylindrical are the power or amount of correction.  Explaining the difference between them requires a course in optics; the short answer is the spherical is power in all directions of the lens and the cylindrical is additional power in only one direction of the lens.
