In ancient times people had the ability to switch between this world and an alternate reality where everyone's gender was opposite.   This was called "The Best Of Both Worlds" and was generally agreed to be a good thing.  Something happened that destroyed the alternate reality, probably something you did.

It means to get the best of both choices to get the best of both choices.

The best of both worlds means to have the best aspects of one choice and the best aspects of another choice when you have been asked to select between two choices.

"You can either get up early tomorrow and get a lot of work done, or you can stay out late tonight and have fun with your friends, but you can't have the best of both worlds."

Usually we can't have the best of both worlds but an example in which we do would go something like this:

"My wife and I bought one house in Paris and one in New York; it gives us the best of both worlds."

It means when there are good results from two different things and you get the good results from both.

Lets say you have a really fast metabolism which allows you to eat anything you want but maintain your weight.  Others have to watch what they eat to keep off the lbs.  You have the best of both worlds, you can eat and you keep off the weight. It's a lame example but its all I could think of at the moment.

Kind of like "Have your cake & eat it too".  You literally get the best perks out of each of the "worlds", whatever they may be.  For example, my daughter gets the best of both worlds w/ her grandparents.  My parents spoil her & so do her fathers.  She can't lose!
