Keep your mind on the job

And your eye on the ball

Your nose to the grindstone

And try to walk tall

An eye out for trouble

While you step up the pace

Extract your finger

And keep a straight face.

Applying your mind

To the problem at hand

Will help keep your chin up

You do understand

So gird up your loins

We need all hands on deck

Put a brave face on it

Show your brass neck

Like brothers in arms

In the teeth of a gale

Put your best foot forward

And you cannot fail

  1. There's a reason for slogans. They excite the crowd and the participants, whether in sports or other activities. You did a great job putting them together in rhyming poetry.

  2. To write a poem with cliche's is a challenge, and you have succeeded. I reviewed a cliche' dictionary in which I wrote a short story all in cliche's.

The poem says "you will weather the storm" and "the grass is greener on the other side" of a problem.  You will succeed.

    Excellent work.

    T.

  3. Nicely strung together, A bit of nostalgia in the mix is always welcome

    I enjoyed your poem much.

  4. Thanks, Coach, put me in. I'll score!

  5. A poem of slogans!  Nice spin, spinning them together.  I will try to keep a straight face after this! lol

  6. This is the kind of reading I need now. FUN!

    Thanks...

  7. I am so jealous, you thought of it first Foggi! Good work matey!

Is this Words and Wordplay or Poetry? The lines are blurring....finally.

  8. This is so much fun.  There is no lack of cleverness to be able to take all these slogans and cliches and put them together coherently and with humor. Well done!
