Is the cash all of the business's cash on hand, or just the cash earned for that month (period)?

  1. Cash on Hand is the cash in your cash register, or the cash not yet deposited into the checking account or deposit account from the cash register. It is not petty cash.


  2. On a trial balance cash is an asset.

    Therefore it is the cash on hand.  In many cases it is reported as two entities:

    Petty cash

    Cash in Bank
