What does the concrete and lived reality of culture (rituals, prayers, exchanges...) have to do with abstract mental structures?

Depends on whose point of view you are trying to comprehend.  

Generally, it is accepted that the base (material/concrete reality) gives rise to and supports the superstructure (ideational/ideological culture).

For example, economic dependence on oil and desire to develop a military presence in the Middle East, gives rise to the mass hallucination of WMDs wherever oil can be got.
