What does the death of Chairman Hua Guofeng mean for China?

Chairman Hua was Mao's handpicked successor and he told Hua, "With you in charge my heart is at ease."

Because his death happend during the Olympics, the funeral will be very sensitive for China.

are people in China saddened over Hua's death?

  1. He is the last connection with Chairman Mao. And for many years I was bothered by the uncanny physical resemblance of the two men. I still think he was really Mao Ye Ling, one of Mao's sons missing since the time of the Korean War and presumed dead. He was the one in power when Mao's widow and the other members of the Gang of Four were condemned and stripped of power for attempting a coup. Under Chinese social standards, the only one who can condemn a widow in public is the eldest surviving son. I wonder, years from now, if some secret file drawer's contents are made public and my suspicions are confirmed.
