  1. That someone or something that looks calm and not chaotic on the outside can be quite tumultuous deeper down.

  2. t means there are hidden "clues" behind a mild item. things seem calm at first until you go deeper into a problem or situation. It means that, even though something may look safe it can be dangerous if you don't know what your doing.

So the water is still and it looks safe to swim in right?

But you don't just climb to a high rock and doing a flying jump into the water, you have no idea whats in the depths.

It's a way to look at life situations, people, career paths etc. u better know how to swim no matter how deep the water or how rough the rapids it means that a quiet and still person has much more to them than meets the eye. It means a quiet still person is actually thinking deeper than the loud obnoxious ones. I agree with Leslie and tankgirl. It means that a silent and mellow person can be smarter and wiser than someone who is very outgoing.it means that you shouldn't think of someone clueless just because they don't talk much. a person who is highly knowledgeable, always tend to remain calm like a still water, but his knowledge is indepth like an ocean. have you got it, please try to be a still water first. It means outward Appearances are deceptive. One may look calm outside but can land you in real deep trouble. Most often, if not always, it is true. Don't judge anyone or anything by the outward appearance as you may find quite a different person inside.

It has another shade of meaning too. Shallow (immature) persons make noises & prove unruly like the shallow waters as Empty vessels make noise.. But the calm ones remain silent like deep waters. That's MATURITY ( MENTAL-Maturity, not physical!) there may be more than what you can see of that purpose It may mean that just because the movement of the water in slight or none, it does not mean that it is shallow. OR in common usage to its intention; What appears to be a minor thing is actually something significant.

Another analogy might be...It's just the tip of the iceberg. It means what appears on the external may be completely different to the internal. Its calm on the outside but it may be tidal waves on the inside.

lol sorry i dont really feel up to putting this in my own words but i think you'll understand it. :]

  3. That people who are not constantly jabbering are often more thoughtful and intelligence.  Someone who is quiet isn't stupid or slow-witted.
