What does the father of the bride wear?

we are getting married on the beach, but it is a bit more formal then the Hawaiian shirt and shorts getup. the groom and his guys are wearing blue shirts, navy sport coats, pink and navy patterned ties (our wedding colors) with nice khakis. my dress is ivory. my dad is a very, very casual guy that does not own a sport coat. my mom suggested a navy shirt and navy tie (think reggis) with khakis. she is wearing a burgundy cocktail dress from j.crew. do i have him go out and buy a sport coat that he will never wear again? what do you think he should wear?

What if he were to wear the same thing as the guys, minus the sport coat?  Then they'd still match and he could be comfortable.. Other than that, I'd have him get the coat (or maybe rent one?)

mines wearin a woman beater shirt with torn up blue jean shorts.Okay,I'm just kiddin.I am having a beach style wedding as well and my father will be wearing a tan looking suit with a blue tie and baby blue shirt

the father of the bride is suppose to wear what the groomsman and the future husband wear at least that is what i have always been told and have seen at all the weddings i've been to.  i also had my dad wear the same thing as the guys at my wedding.  but you could always ask him what he wants to wear maybe he will just want to wear what the guys are wearing

Try something like black dress pants or black jeans and a nice collared shirt. Something like this:

You could just do the shirt in a different color.

you want your dad to be comfortable just like you want to be. nice khakis and a navy blue shirt would be perfect

I think the blue on blue with khakis will look great and your dad will be far more comfortable and everyone will be happy.  Good luck and God Bless your marriage.

a dress shirt and tie would be fine and maybe a tie to match your dress or your mothers

I think the navy shirt and tie is fine. It's your wedding... everything is fine as long as you're fine with it.

Could you hire? My Daddy is wearing the same as the Groom, FOG, Best Man and Ushers. We are hiring all of our suits, because it makes it cheaper in the end :) Do you want him to match the others? Or do you want him to look just like a fancy guest? Ask him what he would be comfortable wearing, and go with that :)
