  1. 13 stripes signify the original 13 colonies and the 50 stars are for the 50 states.

  2. The flag of Canada, like everything else, is based on Compromise. At the beginning, the flag was the Red Ensign, a flag with the British Union jack. This didn't sit well between the immigrants and the French and the new patriotic Canada so a new flag was designed to represent Canada as a sovereign country. The Maple Leaf celebrates nature and the environment (for everyone), the colour Red represents British heritage (for the British loyalists), and the colour White represents French heritage (for the French).

  3. Im from Ireland and our flag is a tri-colour of Green White and Orange, the Green stands for Catholic, the White stands for peace, and the Orange stands for Protestant, Peace between Catholic and Protestant.

  4. I was born in Italy. My flag has three vertical stripes of equal width in green, white and red. There are different ideas about what they mean. Some say hope, faith and charity.

  5. Called the union jack to the brits represents ,England Ireland Scotland and Wales .BRITAIN has a red cross Scotland has a blue cross and so until all combined you get the Union flag

  6. The flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina contains a wide medium blue vertical band on the fly side with a yellow isosceles triangle abutting the band and the top of the flag. The remainder of the flag is medium blue with seven full five-pointed white stars and two half stars top and bottom along the hypotenuse of the triangle.

The three points of the triangle are understood to stand for the three nationalities of Bosnia: Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs. It is also seen to represent the map of Bosnia which looks like a triangle. The stars, representing Europe, are meant to be infinite in number and thus they continue from top to bottom. The flag features colors often associated with neutrality and peace - white, blue, and yellow. The colors yellow and blue are also seen to be taken from the flag of the European Union. They are also colors traditionally associated with Bosnia.

  7. I come from Australia, Great Britain and Portugal.

I am British by my mother and her family, and Portuguese by my father, however I've been living in Australia most of my life...

#1 - The flag of AUSTRALIA:

The Union Jack (as Australia was colonized by the British), the Commonwealth Star which is found under the Union Jack, and to the right of these two symbols are a selection of 5 other starts, in the shape of a diamond which represent the Southern Cross. They are the Gamma Crux, the Delta Crux, the Belta Crux, Alpha One Crux and the smallest star is the Epsilon Crux. The Australian National Flag is Australia’s foremost national symbol. It was first flown in 1901 and has become an expression of Australian identity and pride.

#2 - The flag of GREAT BRITAIN (UNITED KINGDOM):

The Union flag, properly known as the Union Jack, is the national flag of the United Kingdom. It is the British flag. It is called the Union Flag because it symbolises the administrative union of the countries of the United Kingdom. It is made up up of the individual Flags of three of the Kingdom's countries all united under one Sovereign - the countries of 'England, of 'Scotland' and of 'Northern Ireland' (since 1921 only Northern Ireland has been part of the United Kingdom). As Wales was not a Kingdom but a Principality it could not be included on the flag.

#3 - The flag of PORTUGAL:

The green and red colors that make up the background field hold a much more ambiguous and mysterious meaning than the most common explanations. These explanations arose during the Estado Novo period, the nationalist authoritarian regime that held power from 1933–1974, and claim that the green represented hope and the red represented the blood of those who died serving the nation. Some sources believe these noble meanings are far from being true and were nothing more than propaganda, to give an honorable justification to their choice.

  8. Here is a link to the new (post-1994) South African flag.

I'm not sure if it is true, but common banter says that the flag represents two path coming together as one. Although the designer has stated that the colours have no meaning, people have generally made their own meanings. The black represents black people, and the white for white people (btw black and white are not used offensively here, but are official terms used in our census.) The yellow represents the wealth of gold we produce. The blue for the sea on three of our sides, and the red is the blood that was spilt during our country's history.

    I hope that is interesting.

  9. The United States Flag: white signifies purity and innocence, red stands for hardiness and valor and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.  The star is a symbol of the heavens and the divine goal to which man has aspired from time immemorial.  The stripe symbolizes a ray of light emanating from the sun.  Gold fringe is an optional enrichment and not required.  The thirteen stripes represent the original thirteen colonies and the 50 stars represent the current 50 states.
