What does the future hold for Latanna Stone - time will tell!
Latanna Stone is one name that has spread over the ladies tours like wildfire. At such a tender age, the young American golfer has broken numerous records by playing up to the required levels of professional golf.
In a statement she said that she is asked about what she wants to do with her life when she grows up, a number of times.
Latanna usually replies by saying just one word – “Golf”. The youngster says that she loves to play golf and the sport is her life.
The American became the youngest golfer in the history of the sport to compete in the United States Golf Association Women’s Amateur Championship.
Stone, who is now 11 years old, has caught the eye of the media by playing magnificently and that too at such a young age.
All this reminds of Michelle Wie. When she came, she steamrolled over the whole of the ladies tour with her charisma and her game, which was better than most on the circuit.
The question arises over the fact that if Stone will follow Wie’s suit and be just another shooting star or will she cup up to the potential that she is capable of.
It is still too early to jump to any conclusions, as these questions will be answered with the passage of time.
Her parents and coach, Brian Mogg, say that the young American golfer is more committed now than she was ever before.
Mogg said, "I love her moxie, I love her panache, I love her competitive spirit". He continued, "Ultimately, it's why she's so good at such a young age. She's feisty, she wants to beat you, she dreams big.
“... The U.S. Amateur for her was not a pinnacle but a steppingstone. She's a lot like Tiger [Woods] in that Tiger's success has always made him hungrier.
“I've always admired that about him, and watching Latanna at tournaments, she wants to beat these girls, and when she doesn't, it makes her want to beat them more. She's ready to take it to the next level".
Mogg compared the Youngster to Tiger Woods. The statement might raise some questions but the Coach defended it by saying that she is as talented as Woods was when he was her age and will obviously live up to become the Tiger Woods of women’s golf.
Women’s golf is being dominated by the youngsters. Not so long ago, Michelle Wie stole the limelight, then it was Lexi Thompson.
With both players now playing on the professional tour, they have made their presence felt and are one of the top contenders in every tournament they participate in
Stone is still very young and has plenty to learn from the sport. What the future holds for her is a question that time will answer.
