  1. My fiance's parents offered to pay for the alcohol and transportation. We are not having a rehearsal dinner so that's one less thing we need to worry about.

  2. Here's a list of the traditional costs for everyone involved --

    Ceremony

BRIDE and family pay for church, church musicians, coordinator, etc.

GROOM and family pay for marriage license and officiant's fee.

    Clothes

BRIDE and family pay for bride's dress, veil, accessories, and trousseau

GROOM and family pay for groom's outfit.

All attendants pay for their own clothing (including shoes).

    Flowers

BRIDE and family pay for arrangements for church and reception, plus bouquets and corsages for bridesmaids.

GROOM and family pay for bride's bouquet, boutonnieres for men, and corsages for mothers and grandmothers.

    Honeymoon

GROOM and family pay for complete honeymoon.

    Photography/Videography

BRIDE and family pay for all wedding photos and videos.

    Pre-wedding Parties

GROOM's family plans and hosts the rehearsal dinner.

Maid of honor and bridesmaids host shower.

Best man and ushers host bachelor party.

    Reception

BRIDE and family pay for all professional services, including hall rental, food (meal and cake), drink, decorations, and music (cocktail and dinner music).

GROOM and family pay for the reception dance (band or DJ) if you have one

    Rings

BRIDE and/or her family pay for groom's ring.

GROOM and/or his family pay for both of the bride's rings.

    Stationery

BRIDE and family pay for invitations, announcements, and wedding programs.

    ***Remember-

This is a TRADITIONAL list. Today, everyone can contribute equally or the couple can pay for everything without the help from parents, or the bride's family can take care of it all.

The best thing to do is have a meeting with both sets of parents and decide who will contribute to what specifically or contribute a set amount towards the wedding.

Most importantly, do what you can afford.

  3. In regards to the wedding itself? Traditionally nothing.

  4. Nothing because the bride and groom should be able to pay for their own wedding.  If either set of parents would like to help out, they can, but it is not an obligation of the bride or groom's parents.

If you're old enough to get married, you should be old enough to take responsibility and pay for the wedding yourself.  If you can't afford a big, formal wedding, don't have one.

  5. The rehearsal dinner.  And basically nothing else... lucky b******s

  6. Nothing, traditionally.

  7. traditionally, nothing. But this day in age - equal rights and all - most families split everything and take on their fair share each! Or where one family has a lot more than the other, the richer side tend to take care of most of it, and the other help out where they can. Working like that tends to bring the families closer together rather than increasing the divide between them due to one family putting financial pressure on the other

  8. Well, my "Father in Law" is extremely cheap, if it's not buying something for himself. He doesn't even give his son a birthday or christmas present. So "the groom's family", didn't pay for a thing to help out, in fact he said "There's too many people. It's expensive." ????? We, and my mother and father, and even my grandmother, paid for the whole thing.

  9. Traditionally, the grooms family pays for the flowers, ie bouquets and boutonnieres (not all the flowers to decorate!) and the rehearsal dinner.

  10. Traditionally the groom's family is responsible for

The rehearsal dinner ( as big or small as you want it to be)

The liquor to be served at reception ( champagne toast and other)

Transportation for Bride and Groom after reception

    Flowers for the Church
