My family and I are going on a cruise to Alaska very soon and we are a family of four. Our room accommodates a third and/or fourth person, but we are wondering how exactly this works and what it looks like. Has anyone experienced this before?

  1. I was on the Sapphire Princess last year from Australia to Los Angeles. It's a great ship, very beautiful. The other answers described the interior rooms pretty well. Also the closet space is rather small for 4 people, so plan accordingly. When you go through the inside passage to Glacier Bay, be sure to go outside early and get a good viewing spot. it gets pretty crowded out there as everyone that does not have a balcony room, go outside to see the views. Bring a warm hat, gloves and jacket as it does get cold at glacier bay. I know you will enjoy the Sapphire.

  3. The 3rd and 4th beds are fold down or drop down bunk beds. The are only dropped at night and put away in the morning by the cabin steward.

The usual configuration in the cabin when the 3rd and 4th bed are being used is the two normal beds below are singles with the bunks above.

The link shows a picture of a 4 bed cabin with the bunks down, that's what the cabin looks like at night. The 2 bed picture is what the cabin will be like during the day.

it's not a picture an interior stateroom of Sapphire Princess but it gives you an idea of the setup.

  4. Go to the Princess Cruise line website and you can take

a virtual tour of all their cabins. They are pretty much alike from one ship to another. I hope you have a great time. I have cruised with Princess and it is a very good line. I love

    cruising!!
