  1. They are not thought highly of.  They try to steer people to their specific products and the products that make them the most money.  They are not open and all of the brokers are trained to handle their clients the same way.  They are just too limited in the products that they push and the options that they provide.

The good thing about them is that they provide a local presence and allow their customers to meet them face to face.  They personalize the broker and financial analyst relationships.  They are not going to maximize your returns because of their limited view of the investing options.

  2. As far as I remember, Edward Jones helped set up the Dow Jones Index and railroad index way back in the early 1900s along with Charles Dow and Charles Bergstresser.

  3. Edward Jones is a franchise. The investment advice is only as good as the advisor within the boundaries of what Edward Jones corporate head office allows.

  4. Edward Jones is just a neighbourhood investment agency, Franchised by the owner of that location.

The one I interviewed were pushing bonds, and didn't want to talk about different options (stocks etc)

Another in 1999 wanted to put me in high tech stocks which I didn't want because I don't understand Hi-tech (glad I didn't buy, Everything Crashed Spring 2000)

My opinion of them, is not much knowledge on markets, but I guess they might be better than nothing, If you have no knowledge.
