Smiles mean different things to different people, and different things in different cultures. In your own words tell me what a smile means to you as a person and according to your culture.

In USA a smile is a way to say hello,or give a passing kindness,a smile can be sincere,or a smile can be fake in case of a sales or buisness person.

  1. well a smile in Egypt is like a smile in Japan,France,Canada..

    ITS A SMILE!!

  2. Well, it's the same in Egypt!

A smile is a gift that doesn't cost you anything but it means a lot to the other person.

ALSO smiling at people is Charity!

    We have this *Hadith :

يقول رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم): ..."تبسمك في وجه أخيك صدقة" صدق رسول الله. رواه البخاري

    In English :

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"Your smiling in the face of your brother is charity"

    --------------------------------------...

    * This Hadith was said in this situation:

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

“There is no person who does not have the obligation of (doing) charity every day that the sun rises.”

Whereupon he was asked, “O Messenger of Allah, from where would we get something to give in charity (so often)?” To which he (peace and blessings be upon him) replied,

“Indeed the gates to goodness are many: glorifying God, praising Him, magnifying Him, saying ‘There is no god but Allah,’ enjoining the good and forbidding the wrong, removing (any source of) harm from the road, making the deaf hear (and understand), guiding the blind, showing the seeker his need, striving as far as your two legs could carry you and with deep concern to give succor to him who asks, carrying with the strength of your arms (the burdens of) the weak. All these are (acts of) charity.” And he added, “And your smiling in the face of your brother is charity, your removing of stones, thorns, and bones from people’s paths is charity, and your guiding a man gone astray in the world is charity for you.”

  3. a smile in Egypt carries the same meaning as a smile in the US .

it is a pleasant greeting , a hello , a passing kindness when i give it to someone i dont know , or slightly know.

it is sincere when it is given to a relative , a friend , a colleague , etc.

a salesman smiles as part of his work to welcome the cutomer .

i have this habit of smiling to a person when i have eye contact with him/her if they are ok in my eyes , if they are arrogant or rude , i dont smile !

it's like brushing the ego of the other person !

  4. i love smiling.

  5. what you mentioned about US culture is almost the same here..

after a number of consequent experiences you can differ a rose sincere smile from a yellow smile which is out of blood flow and cannot be traced in his/her eyes.
