  1. P.S. is post script.

Wow, these people are retarded. SOS doesn't mean "save our souls", it means Signal Of distresS. Don't answer the question if you don't know the correct answer.

  2. PS stands for post script. SOS is a signal of distress, but the letters do not stand for anything. It just makes an unmistakable Morse Code signal-3 dots, 3 dashes, 3 dots. dit dit dit dah dah dah dit dit dit. Meant to be unmistakable by radio or light signal. The first ship to send out a distress code of SOS was the RMS Titanic, on April 14, 1912.

    Regards,

    Dan

  4. PS = postscript

  6. Check wikipedia on S.O.S.

From the beginning, the SOS distress signal has actually consisted of a continuous sequence of three-dits/three-dahs/three-dits, all run together without letter spacing. In International Morse Code, three dits form the letter S, and three dahs make the letter O, so "SOS" became an easy way to remember the correct order of the dits and dashes. In modern terminology, SOS is a "procedural signal" or "prosign", and the formal way to write it is with a bar above the letters, i.e. SOS.

In popular usage, SOS became associated with phrases such as "Save Our Ship", "Save Our Souls", "Save Our Skins", "Save Our Stuff", "Shoot Our Ship", "Shoot On Sight", "Sinking Our Ship", "Survivors On Shore","Son of a Sock",and "Signal On Sand". It is mostly known by "Save Our Ship" and/or "Save Our Souls". However, these phrases were a later development, most likely used to help remember the correct letters (something known as a backronym).
