What does the little pyramid with the eye mean on the US dollar bill?

I've seen National Treasure and everything, I was just wondering what the REAL explanation for adding it to the bill is.

The official interpretation is that the pyramid represents strength and durability. It's incomplete because so is the work of building the nation. The eye in the triangle is the all-seeing eye of providence.
