  1. In laymans terms, it makes bile which helps in the digestion of fats, and it filters the blood, takes out the bad stuff, and turns it into urine (pee).  


  2. In the most basic of terms, it acts as a filter taking out harmful toxins from the body.  Stores some minerals and vitamins as well as iron.  Regulates blood levels of amino acids.  Regulates blood clotting.  Clears the blood of drugs and harmful substances.  Among many other functions.  More than 500 vital  functions have been associated with the liver.

    Up to 2,000 litres of blood travel through the liver in a day.

  3. Accessory gland.

    Produces bile that emulsifies  fats.

    Bile = PH 11; neutralizez chime entering small intestine.

    Sends bile to the gallbladder until its release into small intestine.

    Has other functions besides digestion:

    1. Breaks down and recles red blood cells

    2. Detoxifies blood --- removal of alcohol and drugs

    3. Produces cholesterol necessary for structure of cell membranes

    4. Produces the nitrogenous waste urea from protein metabolism.
