  1. The standard US military sidearm is the Beretta M9.  You should be able to acquire one for around 600 dollars depending on where you go.  They have an ambidextrous safety switch that also decocks the pistol.  The Navy SEAL's however use the Sig Sauer P-226.  It comes with a decocker lever but no manual safety.  Naval aviators use the Sig Sauer P-228 which also has a decocker.  Both of those should be able to be had for around 900 dollars.

  2. I can answer regarding the US Navy.

We use the Beretta M9. 15 rounds. (92FS Civilian world)

Awesome reliable sidearm. I made my 240 points in my pistol qualification using a beat up piece and still made a perfect score giving me my E device in my ribbon and my medal.

Reliable and very user friendly. Has safety/decocking lever in both sides of the weapon. My advice is: Go to a gun club or a range and try to rent this pistol for a hour or so, fell it, test it, see if it fit's you. The range of this pistol is around US$500-700 depending the finish you want. Hope it was helpful.

  3. Army/Marines/Navy: Beretta M9 9mm (92FS)

    Navy S.E.A.L.s: Sig Sauer P226 9mm

Coast Guard: Sig Sauer P226 .40S&W

SpecOps: Some have resorted back to using the 1911 and the proven .45ACP round.

  4. Beretta M9 (similar to the Beretta 92fs only it has military specs)

  5. Standard issue sidearm is the Beretta M9 also known in civilian circles as the 92FS

    $600 is way too much

They regularly go for around $450

The military will of course get a bulk rate discount

    Safeties

Double Action first shot and a slide mounted ambidextrous thumb safety
