Pilar means 'pillar' in Spanish. It was taken from the Spanish-speaking Roman Catholic title of the Virgin Mary (María del Pilar), which means 'Mary of the Pillar'. This is in direct reference to a manifestation of the Virgin Mary that Saint James the Greater saw when he was in Saragossa, Spain.

I think that the name Pilar Isabel is very pretty, and quite Spanish sounding.
