  1. The Kidney makes urine in a two stage process.

    1)Ultrafiltration: involves filtering small molecules,including urea, out of the blood and into renal capsule. From here they flow along the nephron towards the ureter. Then

    2)Selective Reabsorption: involves raking back any useful molecules from the fluid in the nephron as it flow along.

    It will be better to know the detailed structure of the Kidney to fully understand how it works.

  2. Urine.

    Three processes occurring in successive portions of the nephron accomplish the function of urine formation:

    1.Filtration of water and dissolved substances out of the blood in the glomeruli and into Bowman's capsule;

    2.Reabsorption of water and dissolved substances out of the kidney tubules back into the blood (note that this process prevents substances needed by the body from being lost in the urine);

    3.Secretion of hydrogen ions (H+), potassium ions (K+), ammonia (NH3), and certain drugs out of the blood and into the kidney tubules, where they are eventually eliminated in the urine.
