What does the number 2 mean on a one dollar bill?

I have some dollar bills that have a 12 on all four sides, some that have a 2 and i saw one with a number 6. What do those number mean?I tried looking it up but couldnt find anything on it.

It is the number of the federal reserve district that issued the note.  12 indicates the western U.S. headquartered in San Francisco, 2 is New York and 6 is Atlanta.

There are twelve different Federal Reserve Banks responsible for printing paper money in the United States. On the one dollar bill, the bank can be quickly identified by a letter code in the Federal Reserve Seal to the left of the portrait of George Washington. The letter code is also found in the prefix of the serial number. A corresponding Federal Reserve District Number code is found in four locations.

It indicates which branch of the Federal Reserve Bank issued the note. The letter in the left hand seal corresponds with that number. The outer ring of the seal says what city that branch bank is located in, also.

1 = A = Boston

2 = B = New York City

3 = C = Philadelphia

4 = D = Cleveland

5 = E = Richmond

6 = F = Atlanta

7 = G = Chicago

8 = H = St. Louis

9 = I = Minneapolis

10 = J = Kansas City

11 = K = Dallas
