I have a -2.00 reading, and i know it can't be that bad because my vision isn't horrible. But can someone guesstimate what my vision is out of 20. (Eg 70/20 or whatever it may be) Thank you

  1. The numbers are not only the strength of your vision but also the circumference of your eyeball.

  2. Power of contacts cannot be used to calculate visual acuity.  If you mean your vision without glasses, a rough estimate would be between 20/80 and 20/200.

If you mean with glasses or contacts, even a rough estimate is not possible.

  3. -2.00 is moderate near-sightedness, meaning you can't see far away and generally can't meet driving requirements without correction.  The prescription also does not correlate directly with your uncorrected acuity, but a ballpark estimate is 20/80 to 20/100

    see:  http://www.mdsupport.org/library/acuity....

  4. The 20 / 20 number is a complete different measurement than the prescription.

The 20 / 20 value is your visual acuity, that could be affected by several factors, but assuming your eyes are normal, healthy , no asigmatism or anything else, then it would be approximately 20/80

You almost had it right in your example....lol

Which means you have to be at 20 feet to see an object that a normal eye can see at 80 feet...without your contacts on.

But, you are most likely 20/20 or better with your contacts on.
