We added one drop of methyl violet indicator to a test-tube containing 20 drops of 0.1M HCl, and the pH of the solution was 3. What does the pH tell you about the extent of hydrolysis of hydrochloric acid?

  1. 0.1 M HCl should have a pH of 1, so if you get a pH of 3, it says that the HCl is not completely dissociated. Don't know why this would be the case, however.
