First of all, your question has no answer, because the phrasal verb "make up" is not being used in this sentence.  In this sentence the preposition "up" corresponds to the verb "move" not the preceding verb "made" or "make".  So the phrase you need the translation on is "move up" not "make up".  In this context, "move up" means forward progression or advancement or increase.  But i agree with the previous poster, the sentence is not great.

  3. "Made a brave move" is separate from "up on a good volume." A brave move is what they made/what they did; it is the object of the verb "made." "Up" refers to direction. Either that or the sentence should be rewritten as "The market made up a good volume, despite..." In this sense, "made up" means "to earn back," or "to recover."
