What does the "Automatic Send/Receive" option on my phone mean?

When I'm setting up my e-mail account, my phone gave me the option to automatic send/receive manually, every 5 minutes, every hour, ever 2 hours, or every 4 hours... what does this mean? If I chose "every 2 hours", does this mean my phone checks if I have new e-mail every 2 hours?

Thanks in advance!!

  1. You are correct. Whatever time frame you have selected - the phone will automatically log onto your email and send/receive anything that is there - even if you are not currently using the phone or have it turned on. If you have received new email it will sound whatever alarm you have set for it. This can be a handy feature, but it does use battery, especially if you have it set for every 5 minutes. I used to have mine set for 2 hours or something, then just turned it off and went to checking manually every once in a while.

This setting is sort of the "poor man's" push email.
