  1. It means you aren't going to get a second chance.  If you fail, your best hope is a swift and merciful execution, and you might just wind up in a prison where the misery you endure at the hands of your cellmate is entertainment to the guards.  


  2. If you aim to kill the king, make sure you do so. If you don't, then you'll be in a lot of trouble, as you'll have a live king who knows that you're his enemy to deal with.
