What does the quote" advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer,but wish we didn't" mean?

The speaker meant a situation like this:  you've been dating a girl for some time, but realize you're getting very interested in someone else.  You know you should break up with the girl you've been dating, but you know she will cry and you'll feel awful, so you ask other people to advise you what to do.  They mostly tell you to break up with her, which you already knew.

You and I don't agree with the speaker, but that is what he or she meant.
