I was also wondering if you had any examples of it and of the opposite of the quote, meaning that sometimes it is over before it's over if that makes any sense.

  1. you would use the quote to someone who wants whatever it is to be over like the war etc but then  a solider would reply its not over till ITS over

  2. it's saying it isn't over til i say it's over. it's just said in slang.

  3. it means the  game has not ended until time runs out. the opposite would be , "It was over before it ever began".

  4. it's like the scene in greys anatomy when the chick tells george that 'you're not in the dead-dad's club, until you're in'.

  5. Simply means" even when things look bad,...

unfinished and undone,....you still got a chance to finish it,...

or make it right,....all hope is not gone,...you still have the last,

say so,...kind of like,...the ball is in your court,...shoot your best shot,....;),...another way of saying the odds may not be

in your favour,..However,................ there's still hope of your winning,...Best Wishes,.....

  6. It mean that before a game or an election say are over everyone assumes who the winner will be by the results so far..but that may not be right.

Some people also give up if it looks like someone else is winning.

Some people use an opponents low self esteem and make it clear they will win hoping the other person will drop out.

It means never give up until the end even if you are behind.

  7. People like to make assumptions about something being over(the result) before it is actually over(expired). Example? Well, Yogi Berra made it popular so in baseball the hometeam could be losing 12-0 in the 9th inning and everyone says the game is over. But, maybe they will score 13 runs in the 9th inning and win the game. That would be a classic of it ain't over till it's over.  Opposite? No, it's never over till regulation time or playing time is over. Then it's over.

  8. "Shooting" has the answer and who originally said it. Yogi  Berra was a sketch and u never knew what he was going to come out with. He was also a great  Catcher for  the Yankees.

  9. clock is still running

  10. when someone thinks a game is over because of a differance in a score.and the one that had the low score ends up the winner.its prejudging something before its conclusion.

  11. i think two things...its not over until your satisfied with the outcome..or it aint over cuz your life aint over....not 2 sure though=)

  12. well its pretty much like saying it wont be over till i say that it is

also it might meen that dont keep waiting till its over its gonna finish when it finishes

  13. It ain't over until GOD Himself says it's over...Universally and Spiritually so!

    ~

Concerning the opposite of that quote: Yes, some things can be over before it starts if we use wisdom to not begin that journey in the first place.

  14. the other person must be stubborn so they won't give up until they die or they know that they can't win.

like they won't give up and they will defeat you at something or keep trying at least.

    he has a good spirit

  15. Sort of like a person who won't stop doing whatever needs to be done till its done...It's not over till its over....he won't give up no matter what til its over.

  16. Meaning:  Don't count yourself out until something is over.

Example:  Team A is losing a game by 10 pts and there is a minute and a half left on the clock.  Team B repeatedly fouls them, so they shoot foul shots and make all of them, scoring 11 points.  Team B does not make any more baskets, and Team A wins even though it looked like they would lose.

Opposite Example: Boy breaks up with girl.  Girl follows him out the door, pleading for him to come back.  Boy shuts the door.  It's [the relationship] over before he's out of the apartment.

  17. it think it means is you can't give up, that kind of thing. or you are in a situation where you have no choice but to finish what you started.

  18. a certain game isn't won until the last second or minute

it's not over until the very end

  19. Its a little bit similar to "don't count your chickens before they hatch", basically, don't jump to conclusions or act like you know the outcome of an event before the end of said event.

  20. It Ain't over til it's over is self explanitory but doesn't really take

    any deep thought

There is always It Ain't over til the Fat Lady sings.

  21. It all started with the original saying, "It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings".  That was in reference to an opera, darned if I know which, and honestly, darned if I know why.

That was a popular and well-known saying, until Yogi Berra put his own style into it.

Yogi was great at coming up with sayings like that, things that aren't quite what they seem to be trying to say.  "I should have stood in bed", "You can observe a lot just by watching", and one that he didn't actually say but could have, "Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded."

  22. Many have given you examples of how you can assert "It aint over 'til it's over". This phrase has probably been used from sport analogy's to fighting mutant ninja's from outer space as the local farm boys gang up to stop them before they take over the world :). Anyways, the phrase is used in an situation where one person or group might be seen as the "underdogs" and the other team has some sort of leading score (or mutant alien powers). They might be close to victory, but somebody from the underdog side could "It's not over till its over". That would be appropriate.

    Two similar quotes:

"It aint over till I say its over"

"It's not over till the fat lady sings"

Now, you want some opposites? Hmm.

    "c**p, we lost."

Getting frusterated is also a sign of giving up.

"If you don't see the light, why bother walking?"

  23. "It ain't over till it's over."by Yogi Berra

Berra, who quit school in the eighth grade, has a tendency toward malapropism and fracturing the English language in highly provocative, interesting ways. Simultaneously denying and confirming his reputation, Berra once stated, "I never said half the things I really said."

As a general comment on baseball he said: "Ninety percent of this game is half mental."

On a trip to Cooperstown, to attend a dinner, Phil Rizzuto commented to Yogi, "I think we're lost." To which Yogi responded "Yeah, but we're making great time."

"It ain't over till it's over." - After Berra's 1973 Mets trailed the Chicago Cubs by 9½ games in the National League East; the Mets rallied to win the division title on the next-to-last day of the season.

To me "It ain't over till it's over." means you should never give up. Even when all the odds are against you.

The Opposite would be, "Quitters never win."

  24. Yeah, they both do. The first refers to people who give up when they think there's no chance they will succeed, or that some fortunate event or happenstance cannot possibly occur.

Sometimes it's true, probably more times than not, but there are times when miracles happen, (I don't mean real miracles, I don't believe in them), and some unforeseen action or circumstance resolves the conflict or solves the dilemma.

The reverse example occurs when people refuse to believe that something has occurred that they wish to change. They continue to hope that, again, some miracle will occur to achieve the desired result.

  25. To look at a sports analogy:  suppose your team hadn't scored at all, while the opposing team had scored half-a-dozen times.  Even though there is still time to play, some people might feel, "it's over."You might still hope that your team would come back to win, and say, "It ain't over 'till it's over," even though things look pretty dire.

  26. in sports for instance if you are losing the game by a big number then you can say it aint over till its over . this would indicate that you can still turn things around before the final whistle. basically it means dont give up. you can always change things with a bit of hard work and effort and nothing is impossible. hope this helps. there is also a saying that goes it aint over till the fat lady sings which has the similar meaning.

  27. it means that you havent given up on the task untill you have tried every last resort and givin whatever it is your all. and its not over untill its finished. untill you have resolved it.

  28. that is said by a person that is not finished yet with what ever the situation may be! It ain't over until its over *****!!!

Or in a case of same but you have no control of but want it over but the powers that be are controlling the situation Savvy"

  29. It's not over.... until you make that choice. Some people have a hard time letting go, so it just goes on and on. But only you can decide when you are done, when you've had enough or when you just give up.

  30. well, sometimes it means its not over until u give up, and sometimes it means it's not over until its actually over(dead, usually said in fights).

im not really sure, but I hope this helped ^-^

  31. While there is still any chance, however remote, one should keep trying.  An opposite saying would be, he has three strikes against him before he even steps up to the plate.
