  1. Okay, you may be talking about the bases as in different steps in a romantic relationship. If you've stepped onto a new base (having s*x, possibly) and lose your virginity, you can't have it back.

Another meaning is you have to keep moving on. For instance, say a young woman wanted to get married and live far away from her parents. When she does this, she can't go back to her parents and have them pay for everyhing. Therefore, she can't steal second base (going out on her own) and still keep her foot on first (staying in the security of living with her parents.)

  2. If you want to get ahead in life, you must take steps toward a goal.

  3. You can't be hesitant.  If you're going to try something new/adventurous, then you just have to do it.  You can't stay where you are AND move forward simultaneously.

  4. You can't accomplish the next daring thing if you won't let go of the safety of where you are now.  In other words, yes, it's a risk and a scary thing to "go for it" usually.

  5. You have to really really tall with long legs to do things

  6. It means to take a risk you need to make the decision and commit.

  7. You can't accomplish anything if you're afraid to take a risk

    Cheers
