What does the ranking of All American, All State, etc mean?

Hi, im only in 9th grade. At my school, we have athletes in ranks of " All American ", " All State " , " All City " or " All League " . what does each of them mean?

  1. All American: the best in the country.

    All State: the best in the state

    All City: the best in the city

    All League: I think you mean All District. The best in the district.

    All levels consist of teams formed of the best players of each position and their backups.

    Edit: And anyone who wins any of those honors will probably have each of the lower ones too, but not necessarily, because they are subjective. E.g. if an athlete is All American, he will probably also be All State, City, and District.


  2. All-American means they are among the best athletes in America.

    All-State means they are among the best athletes in the state

    All-City means they are among the best athletes in the city

    All-League means they are among the best athletes in the league.

    All of the rankings mean they are good athletes.  All-State means they're really really good.  All-American means they are elite.
