  1. From http://www.royal.gov/uk

"Head of State expenditure has reduced significantly over the past decade, from £87.3 million in 1991-92 to £37.3 million in 2006-07. In the year 2006-07 The Queen cost the taxpayer just 62 pence per person.

Head of State expenditure is the official expenditure relating to The Queen's duties as Head of State and Head of the Commonwealth.

Head of State expenditure is met from public funds in exchange for the surrender by The Queen of the revenue from the Crown Estate. In the financial year to 31 March 2006 the revenue surplus from the Crown Estate paid to the Treasury amounted to £190.8 million.

Head of State expenditure for 2006-07 was £37.4 million. This was 0.03% less than in the previous year (decrease of 2.7% in real terms).

Head of State expenditure has reduced significantly over the past decade, from £87.3 million (expressed in current pounds) in 1991-92.

Head of State expenditure excludes the costs of Police and Army security and of Armed Services ceremonial, as figures are not available.

Every year the Royal Household publishes an Annual Summary of Head of State expenditure, together a full report on Royal public finances. The two-page Annual Summary and full Royal Public Finances report can be downloaded as Acrobat pdf files at the bottom of this page.

A summary of Head of State expenditure met from public funds in the year to 31 March 2007 reads as follows:

    2007 2006

    £m £m

The Queen's Civil List (figures are for calendar years 2007 and 2006)  12.2 11.2

    Parliamentary Annuities 0.4 0.4

    Grants-in-aid 20.6 20.3

Expenditure met directly by Government Departments and the Crown Estate 4.1 5.5 "

From the above website you can download a two-page annual summary of expenditure 2006-07 (pdf, 165kB)

  2. Almost evrything, but without them - it will not be so interesting and other figure - the head of a country will take over and that might be more costly to the country - in my opinion the royalty - they are pain in the neck, but we without them we have less colorful people.

  3. Trust me, having the Royal Family there more than make's up for the cost of their maintenance.  Not to mention ALL of the people who have their jobs because of them.  Everyone from store owners to street vendors, etc.  Yes, it may seem their living off society, but the feeding goes both ways.

  4. a lot!!!

  5. most of the money they get from the civil list pays the wages of their staff, the staff pay tax on their wages so we can't really grumble cos most of it gets taken back!

  6. I believe a study was recently published comparing the total cost of the royal family vs the amount of money raised for charity and in tourist dollars. The taxpayer only pays something like .09 pounds each year!

  7. My feeling is, that the problem does not lie with the royal family as such, But with the ones who legitimately cannot justify their cost, to the Tax-Payer,I personally think her Majesty the queen is one of the worlds fine examples of how a Royal should behave,

There is no doubt in any ones mind she has been dramatically let down by the antics of some of her nearest and dearest, (as we all have)

We have an elected government who should be sorting these hangers on, Out once and for all, they as they used to say in the army, "  A Drag On The Ration Strength"But nothing will, be done in case it removes the possibility of a Knighthood for someone. We whistle in the wind.

  8. too much off with there heads

  9. far more than they put in, they have lost the respect of many because of the fact they are out of touch with real life, have no idea what the people of the UK are really about anymore. They should buck up or get out

  10. Not as much as it would cost to have someone do their job as ambassadors and tourist attractions.  Think like a business person and get rid of your naive prejudice.  These people work harder than anyone - the queen as to get up every day with her itinerary set for her by dozens of others.  It doesn't matter if she can't be bothered...she has to do it.  I think people who slag off the royals without knowing what they do are silly republicans who probably buy the sun newspaper and would have us bow down to thick twats like the president of the USA  rather than look up to people who have always put us first and themselves after.

  11. I think people seem to forget the amount of tourism the royal family bring to our country. Yes they cost us in our tax but they make us so much more. I think people have such a bad view on them but I think they are a benefit to this country and are part of what makes us such a great country.

  12. The cost to the taxpayer is only part of the problem. To have no say over who should be our head of state is just plain wrong.

  13. Their sanity !

  14. i don't know about the money side. am sure they are on the Govt website. I also remember Charles once used the Royal train and cost us thousands and thousands of money. The worst thing is, they have to be maintained but he only uses it once a year.

also in terms of the country's image, they cost us a lot.

  15. about .oo1% of the overall cost of illegal  immigration per year. are you offering a choice??

  16. we give her loads of money to keep herself and the rest of the parasites , yet she is one of the richest people inthe world ,if she has enough left over to invest , buy property ect , why the h**l are we still paying her ,she should live off what shes got ...........

  17. Far less than the sponging layabouts and no hope rs about today, not to mention the imported idle backs.  the royal family generate a massive input to the economy.

  18. Too much! Spongers and Parasites all of them. a good days work would kill em!!!

The Republic of England sounds better to me!
