What does the saying "behind every good man is a good woman" actually mean? ?

I think that this can be a sexist statement - if you interpret it as Toria D has done, but really I think it harks back to a more sexist time when women really were just viewed as a kind of 'accessory' to a man (yes it was wrong - we know this now). A woman's creative power and support was not seen as valuable in it's own right - but as an enhancement to the husband.

These days there is less of this sort of thing going on and the phrase has lost much of what meaning it ever had (it was always pretty trite if you ask me). I kind of like Browns' interpretation but it could just as easily work "behind every good woman is a good man"

I think in the modern world this phrase is better replaced by, "The right companion can give you a strength and focus that you never thought you had in you."

It means that men in general are useless without women. How many times has your dad asked your mum what she thinks when it comes to important decisions, or your husband/partner asked you? Do you honestly think they would be comfortable making the decision themselves.

This statement is not sexist at all.

The actual saying is" behind every strong/ great man is a strong/ great woman.

It simply means he's a great man on his own, but even stronger with her.

I believe this to be a very powerful statement.
